"A Wight Carry On" - Stops off at Maher Ross!..

A Wight Carry On involved members of Ryde Fire Station carrying a 13.5-metre ladder around the Isle of Wight, stopping off at each of the Island fire stations, before returning to Ryde to join the Ryde Carnivals main procession on Saturday evening.

The aim was to raise £30,000 to purchase a piece of heart disease early detection and diagnosis equipment for St Mary’s Hospital in memory of former fireman, Paul Fletcher, 39, who suffered a fatal heart attack while responding to an incident in August 2009.

Maher Ross, who are dedicated supporters of Ryde Fire Station, were thrilled to hear that the firemen were taking on the challenge, and naturally keen to support them. As well as being one of the many sponsors of the event, Maher Ross were pleased to provide refreshments in the shape of Pizza and drinks to the guys outside their office on Binstead Hill, this giving Maher Ross staff one last chance to chear them on before their last push to Finnish the long journey in Ryde.

We are pleased to report that the challenge has so far raised £13,500 towards their total, although donations can still be made at www.rydefirestation.co.uk.
