The End of Council Tax Discounts

If you have an empty property or if a property you own is due to come vacant soon you will need to be aware of the changes to Council Tax discounts.

On 18th January 2017 The Isle of Wight Council announced that from 1st April 2017, any property that is substantially unfurnished or undergoing structural alterations or major repair works in order to render them habitable will receive Zero discount from Council Tax.

The IW Council have said 'By removing discounts, this will promote prompt reoccupation of a property, creating additional housing stock available for Island residents'.

No changes have been made to the 50% premium charged on properties which remain unoccupied and unfurnished for a period exceeding 2 years.
