It's Condensation Time Again!

Maher Ross are very careful to only manage good quality housing stock which is free of any significant construction issues.  However, as we head into winter, rainfall and humidity increase against a backdrop of falling temperatures, and this inevitably leads to a number of complaints from our tenants about damp and mould - some of which can be really significant.

The black mould that results from damp and condensation can be a significant health issue and we always seek to address these issues when they arise.

We generally find there are two main reasons for the problems that our tenants experience:

The first is that there may be an issue with the physical structure of the building in that moisture is getting in from outside, or finding it's way in through pipework.  We can address this by inspecting the property and rectifying the building issues identified.

The second reason is "Condensation" - a process that many of our tenants simply are not aware of.  We spend a great deal of our time in November, December and January looking for signs of condensation and explaining the process to our tenants.

We have recently been helped significantly by our friends at the National Landlords;' Association (the NLA) who have given us permission to use the following video:

Controlling Condensation and Mould Growth - an NLA Guide

This video only lasts a few minutes but we've found it to be really informative and we are recommending that our Tenants watch it.

If you would like to discuss a condensation issue with the Maher Ross Team, please speak to Graham or Paul for futher information.
